What is the dub reggae machine?
Dub reggae is a genre also created in the homeland of Reggae – Jamaica. “Dubbing” reffers to recording over something – in this case classic reggae tracks that have been ‘remixed’ by ‘dub creators.’ Using the mixing console as an instrument, the creators of dub reggae were responsible for creating the idea of a ‘remix.’ A lot of this was done long before the advent of digital music production, making this kind of remixing so much more special.
Using lots of reverb and delay, these tracks have a wonderful sound that then went on to inspire new generes – “Dub Techno” and “Dubstep” to name a few.
